Today felt so odd…

I slept until my alarm, woke up, worked for 5 hours at my part time job, came home… and that’s it. I feel like today was just a “nothing” kind of day. I didn’t accomplish anything- at least nothing felt fulfilling. That being said, I didn’t feel compelled to do anything either. So weird- it’s kinda like motivation limbo, don’t wanna do something, but don’t wanna do nothing either…

Whilst in my limbo, I did catch the latest episode of Top Model and I really enjoyed this weeks shoot. The girls were done up to be vampires with teeth and white out contact lenses- they were led blind (white out lenses block all vision) to a claw foot bathtub full of blood and they were to pose with a male model. The big challenge was modeling blind – normally the model can see where the light is, the lens, how they look generally in their poses.

Annie get yer gun and SHOOT!

Last night I watched a new documentary about Annie Leibovitz. Extremely motivating and inspiring.

One of the things I took from it was to just carry my small camera around and just shoot shoot shoot. Here’s today’s results.

It’s SPRING! Let’s eat Beef!!!

Alright, let’s not beat around the bush here… I’m a Meat-atarian… I’ve grown up eating Triple A quality Alberta Beef. With that is the tradition of cooking these beautiful cuts of meat on the Barbecue, and the excitement and joy of the first BBQ of the spring.

Well my friends today was the day, I busted out the BBQ sauce, the hamburger meat, the cheese and I made my self a delicious burger mmmmmmm.

I also forgot to take photos or video of it. Oh well, I’ll go with a random image from a Google search for “BBQ” ha-ha.

We get by with a little help from our friends

Since my “Art School Panick Attack” posting I have gotten some lovely messages from my close friends that have just warmed my heart. They sent messages of concern, love, support, and advice… it’s so funny because that crazy bad day brought me these messages that made me feel like I was on cloud nine. The privilege of having these amazing friends was once again highlighted with these messages.

One of the friends sent me this youtube video and it made me smile SOOOOO big.

I hope that you yourself have friends like these, and that some day you can be a friend like this to someone. I’m sure throughout my career in art college and beyond I will need this help again, and I hope I will be able to hand out that help just as much in that time.

Piano Chat Roullette inspiration

One of the most popular videos on Youtube right now is a video of a Piano Player improvising songs about people on Chat Roullete (video chat the brings up random chat partners that you can “next” if you don’t like them)

These video’s have INSPIRED me. The inspiration and concept is to apply this to other businesses. Coming up in the beginning of may I have arranged to apply this concept to Bee Kingdom Glass blowing at their open house during their glass blowing demonstrations. Stay tuned, I will blog with more information later in April.

Alright I’m sure a lot of you have seen this already, but there is a youtube video with elementary school kids performing a scene from Scarface- instead of swearing they say things like “Fudge You” and “You B!”

Having no children of my own, I think this is HILARIOUS! Although, I do recognize that it would be concerning if I was a parent ha-ha.

Don’t go buying waterfalls

I’ve known about this for a while- there’s one part of the video that talks about local water being better regulated, and on average people think local water tastes better when they do taste tests. I have ALWAYS thought tap water tasted better, thought I was crazy for a while!

Too Tired So I’ll Just Save the World

I’m incredibly tired, it’s Friday- and this week was the most exhausting week so far this calendar year and school year so I will just attempt to save the world by promoting Earth Hour.

At 8:30 PM March 26 (tomorrow) Local time the World Wildlife Foundation encourages the world to turn off the lights for one hour, only one hour. For me, I take it to another level by not only turning off the lights but ALL electronics for the hour. Only candles and company or a book depending on who is home.

Please join me in participating tomorrow- I’ll be doing my earth hour from 9:30-10:30 because I work during the official earth hour this year.

Art School Panic Attack

Ladies and Gentlefolk, welcome to Jen’s first Art School Panick Attack.

Today, it happened. I full on broke down and cried because it felt like the art world was crashing down on me. I feel the need to share this because I think it’s important to be real with the world in order for the world to relate to me. I am going to list the compilation of things that lead me to my epic panic attack today:

Late Art History Paper (losing 5% every day it’s late) due to avoidance and anxiety
Design Drawing assignment due tomorrow that I don’t know how to approach (automatic F if it’s not done)
Fear of not being able to apply to Photo if I don’t get the above work done
Fear of failing a class- too late to Withdraw from classes now so that will effect my grades
Super tight budget until the end of the semester
With all this anxiety, sadness that I don’t have a significant other to hold me and tell me “it will all be OK”

Independently all of these issues are manageable- but today it felt like they were all fighting for my attention at the same time. Basically giving me the feeling of “you are a failure, you don’t know what you are doing, what’s wrong with you” etc. etc. etc.

As a human, pretty much everyone gets to this place at some point, and gets through it for the most part. What bothers me is that I’m aware of the irrational thoughts, I’m aware of the solutions, but I still have anxiety rolling around in my stomach.

I’m trying to go from “How did I let this happen” to a proactive “what actions can I take to fix this”- problem solving mode. I’m too emotional for problem solving mode still… waiting impatiently to get to that mode but I think the waiting is giving me more anxiety. DAMN YOU VICIOUS CIRCLE!!!

Steps I have taken so far:

Called my best friend Kyle and had a good hard “Vent and Cry and Vent and Cry” (he’s been to Art School too so he relates)
Taken Kyle’s advice, and wrote my Art History teacher explaining my situation asking for redemption
Wrote this blog so I could share my woes with the world and try to save another anxiety ridden sole from feeling by themself
